Anchored Ngalawa after Sunset

Description

This dugout wooden sailing canoe native to Zanzibar is called the ngalawa, here anchored in the shallow water off Jambiani Beach. It is handcrafted from a hollowed-out mango tree trunk and fitted with two distinctive outriggers, a bamboo mast, and a triangular sail and is their main means of water transport for both fishing and tourism.
